On the couch one evening. She sits alone, in her head, thoughts ruminating and weighing her down. The television flickers unimportantly. Background noise.
Out of the corner of her eye a loud crack-boom and glow of light draws her attention. She moves over to the window and in the distance, another crack-boom and a flash of color. Fireworks.
Slipping on her shoes and a sweater, she heads outside for a better view.
The night sky is on fire with color and stars, and for those precious minutes, she feels free. She hasn’t realized, until now, how grey her world had become. Nor had she realized how much she needed to see the light.
