At a resort that appeared to be teeming with happy couples, on their honeymoons no doubt, she had a hard time feeling relaxed, let alone happy. And while her friends tried their best to distract her from heartache with tropical drinks, sunshine, and togetherness, all she felt was empty.
The next day, her friends woke her gently and said they had a surprise day trip. She let her thoughts wander on the drive and her eyes welled up with tears. When they arrived at their destination, her best friend took her by the hand and led her to the rocky shore ahead. Warning signs peppered the rocks and she wondered why on earth her friends would bring her here.
As they walked and climbed, she heard the crash of water ahead and looked up to see a rainbow spray burst from the ground. Nakalele Blowhole. A beautiful display, but forceful. And a little frightening. Her friends were delighted but something else caught her eye. To her right, a tall rock with the cut-out of a heart in the center.
Seeing the juxtaposition of peace and power between the blowhole and the heart rock, she felt the hole in her heart heal ever so slightly.
