As important as feelings are, sometimes you need to make sure you’re not getting worked up for no real reason. When I get super emotional and start spiraling out of control with all kinds of unhealthy thoughts and feelings, I have to stop and ask myself if I need a little fact check.
For example, if I’m upset because I think “Nobody cares about what I’m doing,” I ask myself, “Is there EVIDENCE that NOBODY cares?” No, there’s not. So I’ve learned to remember that it’s probably not true that NOBODY cares about what I’m doing – some people might not, but some people might. It helps to keep things in check.
