You usually think of PTSD as it relates to violent situations like war and rape. But don’t dismiss PTSD from events like medical procedures, the death of a loved one, or childhood trauma – really, any trauma where you felt physically or emotionally threatened. Once you recognize you’re experiencing PTSD, then can you work to process it. I finally realized that I’ve had PTSD for many years and did EMDR to process my trauma. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it helped me better understand my triggers. I still have more work to do.
